Kapitel has received certifications of sustainability for the majority of its portfolio

Two Kapitel projects, Sõpruse Ärimaja and Panorama shopping centre, received BREEAM In-Use certification. Sõpruse Ärimaja is one of the few office buildings in Estonia that have a certificate for building management as well as the building itself. Kapitel has received sustainability certifications for the majority of its portfolio and is developing all upcoming projects according to BREEAM certification.

“Sustainability and being environmentally friendly are important to us as project developers and owners, as well as to our tenants. We are constantly working on energy efficiency, improving the working and business environment and offering additional services to tenants,” said Taavi Ojala, Chairman of the Board of Kapitel.

Sõpruse Ärimaja, which is part of Kapitel’s portfolio, already had BREEAM In-Use building certification (Part 1 – Asset Performance), and in February, it also received building management certification (Part 2 – Management Performance), both with a rating of Very Good. Our office building at 5 I.P. Pavlova in Prague also holds a BREEAM In-Use rating of Very Good. Our office building at 5 Narbuto in Vilnius has a BREEAM In-Design rating of Very Good, confirming that the design and construction of the building comply with the sustainability certificate. This year, Kapitel will start the certification process for Delta Plaza in Tallinn. One of the two logistics centres in our portfolio, Rukki tee 5, outside Tallinn, was certified at the end of 2021, and the certification process for the Rukki tee 1 facility is about to begin.

Both of our commercial projects currently under development, Arter quarter in Tallinn and Elemental Skanste in Riga, have been designed to meet the BREEAM New Construction sustainability certificate level Excellent. All our upcoming industrial properties will be developed to a minimum of BREEAM New Construction level Very Good.

Among the shopping centres in which Kapitel has a stake, Viru Keskus in Tallinn has the highest level of LEED certification – Platinum level – in the category of the environmentally friendly and sustainable operation (O+M) of an existing building. The Panorama Centre in Vilnius was awarded BREEAM In-Use certification in January 2022 and after refurbishment will apply for Excellent level certification.

The company owns four office buildings (Delta Plaza and Sõpruse Ärimaja in Tallinn, Narbuto 5 in Vilnius and I.P.Pavlova 5 in Prague) and owns a shareholding in four shopping centres (Spice and Spice Home in Riga, Panorama in Vilnius and Viru Keskus in Tallinn). The company owns Nordic Hotel Forum (operated by Nordic Hotels OÜ) and, with Infortar AS, co-owns Tallink City Hotel, run by Tallink Hotels.
