Audiovisual Art Installation “Vital Force” Invites Visitors to Experience Estonian Digital Art for Free

The atrium of the Arter quarter will host “Vital Force,” an audiovisual art installation created by six Estonian artists. Symbolizing life’s constant motion and adaptability to changing environments, the installation will be open from December 1–8, between 4 PM and 9 PM, free of charge.

“This is Estonia’s darkest and coldest time of the year, with very little sunlight. We wanted to create an exhibition that provides energy, hope, inspiration, clarity, and strength for moving forward. Élan Vital, or vital force, symbolizes constant movement and adaptation, celebrating the beauty and power of life,” said Laura Põldma, the project manager of the installation from Optimist Live agency.

The installation features digital creations by six Estonian artists—Sander Tuvikene, Reino Aedmäe, Mikk Mägi, Siim Raud, Valentin Siltsenko, and Alyona Movko-Mägi—drawing inspiration from the essence of the Arter quarter as a new central city meeting point. “In the human body, arteries carry blood from the heart to cells, sustaining life. Similarly, Arter quarter could become a place where big ideas begin and spread out into the wider world,” Põldma added.

According to Allan Remmelkoor, Project Director of Arter quarter, “Arter quarter is more than just a workspace; it’s Tallinn’s new landmark and an exciting gathering place for everyone. We invite everyone to discover Arter, and what better way to do so than by experiencing the unique creations of Estonian artists? This exhibition is a truly captivating and immersive experience.”

The installation, featuring three tall LED towers, is inspired by the three skyscrapers of Arter quarter and was specially designed for the district’s opening, incorporating music and sound effects. “This audiovisual installation intertwines artistic creations, light, and sound to offer an engaging and profound experience,” Põldma commented. The artists use various techniques, from 3D worlds to generative art.

Highlights of the Artwork:

  • Sander Tuvikene’s “Origin” features a floating fractal surrounded by gently moving particles, encouraging viewers to reflect on hidden connections in life and the rhythms of nature. The fractal reacts to touch, emphasizing a link between earthly and cosmic rhythms.
  • Reino Aedmäe’s “Genesis” is a 3D-animated story of a new mythology inspired by ancient motifs such as the cosmic ocean of Mesopotamia and Egypt and the spirit and breath of ancient Greece.
  • Mikk Mägi and Siim Raud’s “Straight to the Arteries” is a playful and abstract animation depicting the emergence of life on Earth, paralleling the creative energy that defines the Arter quarter.
  • Valentin Siltsenko’s “Act, Connect, Advance” explores human ambition, connection, and the pursuit of dreams, mirroring the dynamic nature of a bustling business district.
  • Alyona Movko-Mägi’s “Living Architecture” envisions buildings as growing, breathing, and evolving structures, blending generative architectural motifs with organic patterns.

The installation will be open in the Arter quarter atrium from December 1–8, between 4 PM and 9 PM. Each artist’s work will be showcased hourly, with a presentation duration of up to 15 minutes. The exhibition is free and open to all.
