Kapitel more than tripled the capacity of the solar power plant at Rukki tee 1 logistics centre

Kapitel continues to invest in reducing the ecological footprint of its real estate portfolio. The company built an additional solar power plant on the roof of the logistics centre at Rukki tee 1 in Rae Rural Municipality, which more than triples the current solar energy production. Solar energy now covers more than a third of the tenants’ total energy consumption in the summer period.

A 199 kW solar power plant was built on the roof of the logistics centre at Rukki tee 1 in 2015, to which Kapitel added another solar power plant this year. The active power of its inverters is approximately 500 kW and the annual output is approximately 550 MWh. The total annual capacity of the two solar power plants is nearly 700 kW and their combined output is about 750 MWh.

“Kapitel owns logistics centres in the logistics park at Rukki tee 1 and Rukki tee 5 with a total area of nearly 60,000 square metres. In both buildings there are cold storages, the energy demand of which is the highest in summer, when the output of the solar power plants is also the highest. The installed solar power plants allow us, as the owner of the building, to offer cheaper electricity to the tenants and help keep their utility costs lower,” said Mait Miller, Member of the Management Board of Kapitel Logistics OÜ.

The tenants of the logistics centres at Rukki tee 1 and Rukki tee 5 in the Rukki technology park in Rae Rural Municipality are Smarten Logistics AS, Eugesta Eesti OÜ, ON24 AS and Itella Estonia OÜ.

Mark Paves, Chairman of the Management Board of Smarten Logistics AS, confirms that the green energy investments made by the owner of the building are indeed very welcome. “On the one hand, it helps keep our utility costs under control, and on the other hand, the use of green energy is in line with Smarten’s thinking and the achievement of green goals. It also helps reduce the ecological footprint of all our customers.”

In addition to the construction of an additional solar power plant on the roof of the logistics centre at Rukki tee 1, Kapitel’s logistics centre at Rukki tee 5 was issued a BREEAM In-Use green certificate rating of Very Good with the highest score in the Baltics. The green certification of the logistics centre at  Rukki tee 1 is expected to begin in 2023. Kapitel develops all new industrial buildings to the requirements of BREEAM New Construction rating of Very Good as a minimum.
