Consortium Merko Statyba (Subsidiary of Merko Ehitus in Lithuania) and real estate developer ELL Real Estate have begun the construction of a high school building in a suburb in Vilnius, also becoming its later custodian.
It’s the first attempt to implement the PPP scheme (Public Private Partnership) to education in Lithuania. It is also the first school to be established in Vilnius after Lithuania regained independence.
According to the contract with the local government, Merko and ELL Real Estate complete the building of the school by the next academic year and then offer maintenance and administration services for the next 25 years with a yearly cost of 30 million kroons (6.7 million litas, value added tax not included). The estimated cost of the construction is 136 million kroons (30 million litas).
Estonian duo won the tender that local City Service, Realco, MG Valda and Pinus Proprius were also interested in.
