Unique Food Hall area now open at Viru Keskus

Viru Keskus has opened the most appetizing Food Hall concept area in the heart of Tallinn – a 1500m2 wide indoor avenue boasting 15 restaurants where people can enjoy delicious treats from early morning to late evening. New Food Hall concept is also distinguished by its terrace solution which prolongs restaurant experience into Tammsaare park with unique design solution in cooperation with ÖÖD mirror houses.

According to Gertti Kogermann, the CEO of Viru Keskus, the new Food Hall is part of the shopping centre’s comprehensive makeover project. “Through the whole time of our work, now we experience the most thorough renovation which lasts from already year 2019. We decided to kick off the unveiling of our newest features with the Food Hall, and we invite all visitors to enjoy the wonderful dishes prepared by the best and brightest chefs in Estonia,” said Kogermann.

The Viru Keskus Food Hall aims to provide high-quality food at a reasonable price in the heart of Tallinn, while also creating a diverse and plentiful dining hub for foodies. For example, popular restaurant from the city of Tartu – 3 Tilli – has brought along an authentic Italian pizza oven, and is offering a custom-designed pasta recipe to celebrate the grand opening. Mikkeller, one of the world’s top five craft beer producers from Copenhagen, has prepared a special brew, and Freya Foodbar is offering a tasting menu by Janno Lepik, who was recently recognized by the Michelin Guide as the most promising young chef in Estonia.

In addition, the Viru Keskus Food Hall includes craft ice cream makers KÜLM, and Asian masters from KimiJimi specialising in street food. Hawaiian flavours are delivered courtesy of PokeBowl & Meze, while South American culinary artists at Stereo StreetFood are ready with tacos, tortilla, and guacamole. For the most exquisite desserts, make sure to visit Pavlova, and for the capital’s best coffee head straight to Papermill. If you are hungry for authentic street food, then look no further than F. Burger. Among others, there is Estonia’s most popular sushi brand MySushi. Oriental flavours are provided by restaurant CHI, and long-standing family business Samsa Family Bakers invites you to try out the unique tastes of Uzbekistan. Most importantly, the Viru Keskus Food Hall is now also home to the iconic Airstream travel trailer which will host pop-up restaurants, with So Shellfish as its first guest star with a delectable offering of fresh seafood and oysters.

“We launched the Viru Keskus makeover project during the deepest rut of the COVID-19 pandemic, and today we are seeing the fruits of our efforts. People are finally ready to come out of the long period of restrictions and uncertainty, and they are in dire need of positive emotions and social experiences. Our unique Food Hall, in the heart of Tallinn, will host Estonia’s most creative culinary wizards and local heroes, and I am certain that everyone will be able to find their new favourites from among our rich selection of menus,” commented Kogermann.

“I would like to express our sincerest gratitude to all the brave and innovative restauranteurs, who put their trust in us, and were willing to take this leap of faith in those uncertain times. Every restaurant brought into Viru Food Hall its best and unique solution, their very best menus so You won’t be able to taste it all during one visit,” said Kogermann.

The Viru Keskus Food Hall concept was developed by world-renown Wingårdh Architects from Sweden, who are responsible for the ongoing comprehensive makeover of Viru Keskus with cooperation of agency Think Hospitality from London, while the technical solution was made by Estonian agency 3+1 architects.
