Winning entries from the UK and Lithuania in the architectural competition for the Panorama Centre extension
The Panorama Centre in Vilnius organised an architectural competition for the renovation of the area around the centre and the construction of three new buildings. . The aim is to create a modern public space with different functions and services. The competition received 5 entries and the jury declared the winners to be “N4T8D2WB” by StudioN Create (Nottingham) Ltd. from the UK and “ALĖJA” by MB Fragment architektai from Lithuania.
As the project was a complex one – to design three buildings and renovate the area in front of the shopping and leisure centre – the jury decided to announce two winners. StudioN Create (Nottingham) Ltd. from the UK will renovate the area in front of the shopping centre and design two new buildings at Narbuto Street based on their entry “N4T8D2WB”. MB Fragment architektai from Lithuania will design a building at the intersection of Stumbrų and Pieninėse streets, based on their entry “ALĖJA”.
A total of five entries were received: MB Fragment architektai (Lithuania), UAB Senojo miesto architektai (Lithuania), UAB Vilniaus architektūros studija (Lithuania), StudioN Create (Nottingham) Ltd (UK) and Chapman Taylor S.R.O. (Czech Republic).
As a developer of the area, it is important for Panorama to understand the needs and expectations of the community at an early stage. To this end, Panorama involved both visitors to the centre and residents of the surrounding area in selecting the winners of the competition, who were able to vote for their favourite project.
According to Birutė Kalanovaitė, General Manager of Panorama, the competition was open to professional architectural firms with long experience in the field, so choosing the best entries was no easy task. “The entries were all interesting, unique and of high quality, but the winning entries best met the vision of integrating the Panorama shopping and leisure centre with the surrounding area and the development of Vilnius city, so that in the future it will be an added value not only for the existing infrastructure but also for the nearby residents and visitors of Panorama.” According to Birutė Kalanovaitė, negotiations with the winning companies will start and the design will take at least a year.
